Every piece in the Virelle collection begins with an act of thoughtful renewal. Carefully selected fragments of former glassware are chosen as raw material, full of promise. These glass pieces are meticulously sorted, cleansed, and prepared for rebirth — a process that honours our planet’s resources and lessens environmental strain. It’s a philosophy of circularity, made visible in every vessel, crafted with the future in mind. Once ready, the reclaimed glass is heated to over 1,500°C (2,732°F), where it melts into a fluid state ready for reshaping. In this transformative moment, the artist's hands take over. Using time-honoured glassblowing techniques, the molten material is coaxed and guided, turned with precision, and carefully inflated by breath. Each silhouette emerges slowly, shaped by skill, rhythm, and instinct. The result is glass with presence and grace, formed through patience and intent. While still warm and malleable, each piece is finished with its most defining detail: a series of fine, vertical engraved lines. These are not stamped or mechanically etched but engraved entirely by hand, one line at a time, using traditional tools.
